Understanding the Problem

What is rising damp, really?

Masonry walls draw moisture up from the ground through tiny capillary channels within the block or brickwork — much like a wick drawing water upward. Without an effective barrier, that moisture keeps rising, carrying dissolved ground salts with it.

As the water evaporates from the wall surface, the salts are left behind — driving the paint failure, plaster damage and staining that homeowners notice first. The higher the moisture rises, the more restoration work is eventually needed.

A correctly diagnosed rising damp problem calls for a chemical damp-proof course — a barrier introduced into the wall itself, below the point damp is entering — paired with a wall reinstatement system designed to manage residual ground salts.

How It Works

Six stages, one continuous process.

Hack Off

Damaged, contaminated plaster is removed from the affected area to expose sound masonry.

02

Drill

A line of holes is drilled into the wall at the correct height and spacing to receive the damp-proof injection. Drill holes are then cleared of dust for better injection uptake.

Inject

StopDamp+ Injection Cream is applied into each hole using a cartridge and caulking gun, forming the chemical damp-proof course.

Baseshield

A long, continuous run of internal corridor walls showing classic rising damp symptoms — tide-lined plaster, surface salts and recurring paint failure along ground-floor sections.

Treating the wrong cause wastes time and money. Here's how to tell the difference.

Rising Damp

  • Concentrated near floor level, rarely above ~1m
  • Tide-line staining, often with salt deposits
  • Present year-round, worse in wet season

Penetrating Damp

  • Can appear at any height on the wall
